Ogilvy PR Brussels caused bedlam in Belgium as they shook Brussels all night long on Thursday October 4th! No, AC-DC were not in town, but it was the Official Grand Opening of Hard Rock Cafe Brussels! In tune with tradition, HRC Brussels opened with the famous smashing of Fender default guitars (all of which were spent and on their way to rock heaven anyway). Classic rock ’n’ roll revelry!
To make this event a great success, Ogilvy PR Brussels invited the Belgian press to the Grand Opening ceremony, followed by an exclusive VIP evening at the Hard Rock Cafe. For this high-octane occasion, Hard Rock Cafe rolled out the red carpet upon which 6 Fender guitars were smashed by Mr Howard Gutman (US Ambassador in Belgium), Hamish Dodds (Worldwide CEO and President of Hard Rock International), Rita Gilligan (the first waitress of Hard Rock Cafe London – cultural attaché for the brand), Paul Sharp (General Manager of Hard Rock Cafe Brussels), Huey Morgan (vocalist with The Fun Lovin Criminals) and Dan Gillespie (vocalist in the band The Feeling). For every guitar smashed, HRC Brussels offered a new Fender guitar to the Queen Fabiola Children’s Hospital in Brussels. This smashing ceremony was then followed by a VIP party inside the prized UNESCO Heritage Site walls that encase Hard Rock Cafe. There guests could experience the notorious HRC atmosphere, decor, cocktails and burgers to the sounds of Dan Gillespie playing live. The party continued with a dj set by Huey Morgan until the small hours. The event was a huge success with 36 journalists attending the event, including 2 TV stations, and generating over 40 press articles.
